Why TradeStart?
There is currently a great shortage of technicians and trades-people in New Zealand and it is vital that many more people are encouraged into the vast range of career opportunities that are available.
After wide consultation, led by Hutt City Council, with government departments, schools, Industry Training Organisations (ITOs) and Polytechnics, the decision was made to set up this ‘one-stop shop’ for all of the trades covered by ITOs and other training providers.
The Ministry of Social Development has provided funding for this trial programme and a centre has been set up in the City Plaza in High Street, Hutt City, with a full range of career information and facilities for chatting with ITO representatives, or information evenings for groups of people interested in a particular career path.
